Retreat to Your Root: San Luis Obispo
After a 2 year retreat hiatus Dr. Casie Humble is thrilled to be co-leading the ever evolving Retreat to Your Root with Veronica Stevens in January 2022. Retreat to Your Root is a unique pelvic-centered wellness retreat. The retreat is a deep immersion focused on pelvic health, women’s wellness, community building, and self (and community) -care as the ultimate strategies to maximizing whole system health. The weekend will feature engaging lectures, yoga and gentle movement practices, group discussion, special guest speakers, and connection with community. Dr. Casie and Veronica will offer creative activities centered around womb wellness and awareness of the menstrual cycle with an aim to promote empowerment and presence through connecting to your center. Retreat to Your Root is open to all people with wombs who are comfortable in a woman-centered environment. The content will be geared towards biological anatomy, the menstrual and menopausal experience and is appropriate for those of all ages with interest in pelvic health and the mind-body connection
Dr. Casie will include daily in-depth instructions in physical yoga postures as well as a variety of breath techniques and meditations specifically to benefit the pelvis (aka your “root”). She will also lead educational discussions on topics including pelvic floor anatomy and physiology, the mind/body connection related to pelvic pain, energetic connections to the pelvic floor, and the main purpose of the retreat; the importance of self-care and inner-work.
Veronica will teach menstrual fluency and pelvic embodiment and the anatomical, physiological, emotional, and energetic systems of the root. This will be an embodied re-education with movement, breath-work and self-palpation exercises to generate a felt-sense of what we learn in the body.
Meet the Team
DR. CASIE is the founder of Retreat to Your Root and has been evolving this experience since 2015. She will lead discussions and lectures mapping out the anatomy and the physiology of the pelvic floor and core systems- both from an allopathic medicine point of view and an esoteric one. She will discuss pelvic floor function and coordination as well common "conditions" that may benefit from more pelvic floor awareness. The lecture material will be followed by mindful movement practices and exercises aimed at embodying the information into physical form. She will also incorporate opportunities for deep rest to nourish the nervous system and allow for an energetic assimilation of the material.
VERONICA ROTTMAN is a Holistic Pelvic Care Practitioner, a birth doula trainer, yoga teacher, and womb healing guide. Her aim is to hold space for healing through a trauma-informed lens, guiding her clients through embodied re-education of the pelvic bowl, the menstrual cycle, birth and more. She integrates her experience working with clients along the full spectrum of pelvic and womb care with her skills as a yoga teacher and doula to help guide clients back to balance and embodiment. Veronica engages in healing from a root-cause approach that considers all realms including the body, mind and spirit.
Veronica holds space for private clients, classes, immersions, and retreats internationally. She is a mother of two little boys and is very passionate about her career in helping others find well-being through pelvic embodiment and womb healing.
Special guest, Dr. Uchenna “UC” Ossai of YouSeeLogic is a sex-positive pelvic health physical therapist and sexuality educator and counselor. Dr. UC is assistant professor at the University of Texas Dell Medical School and also serves as pelvic health program manager at UT Health Austin. She is on faculty for the University of Michigan, School of Social Work’s Sexual Health Certification Program. Dr. UC is one of few licensed physical therapists in the world with an AASECT certification in sexuality counseling; as well as the only Black physical therapist with this specific designation. Dr. UC spends her days treating people with both sexual and pelvic floor dysfunction, and her evenings educating the masses on everything that has to do with “sexytime”. When it comes to sexual intelligence and great sex education, UC embraces always being unapologetically real, happily crunk, and deliciously kind.
UC will be joining Retreat to Your Root with a very special offering focused on developing and understanding the sensual and sexual self. There will be dance moves, lots of laughs, and a very fun discussion about all things “sexytime”.
